Since our last blog post in November, we've been working hard on that list of new features, as well as improvements and fixes to all aspects of the system.
That has now been deployed to http://statisticsbeta.com together with an updated collection of data, ready for a final round of intensive testing.
By 'release candidate' we mean that this is the basis of what we plan to 'go live' with in February - no significant additional features are planned before then. However, we know that there are a few bugs that still need fixed and a few rough edges that need smoothed off. Also, work is in progress to prepare more detailed metadata and documentation of every dataset.
So there is still plenty of work to be done but we're getting closer to the first operational release.
